ImmedicableME

My significant other was diagnosed with breast cancer today.

It’s small. Hopefully the treatment will be easy and successful.

She’s my caregiver and the caregiver to her 88 year old mom. How is this possibly going to work? I feel so scared and helpless. If I didn’t have , I could do all the things to help her. Right now I’m in a severe crash and can barely take care of myself. I’m so overwhelmed.

I have to believe she’s going to be ok. I have to.

The pathologist said it’s benign!

It’s benign!

The radiologist was wrong!

They called late this afternoon and said that the mass was so suspicious in characteristics and position that they want her to have a lumpectomy because the biopsies might have missed cancerous cells. Trying very hard to hang on but this is like riding a mechanical bull.

On Saturday morning we move to the state where she has been taking care of her elderly mother. Somehow we have to make all of this work. Lumpectomy and maybe other treatment, end of life care for her mom, and my ME/CFS.

I feel far more swear-y than my polite post would suggest.

Postponed the move because of state-based insurance. They said it could take a month to switch & it wasn’t an option to wait on the lumpectomy. Fortunately the lumpectomy is now scheduled for Wednesday. We should have the pathology report within a week after that.

& symptoms are very flared up. Grateful to have a couple of days to rest. Grateful for my art journal and the power of scribbling & the calm of drawing repetitive lines. Grateful my S/O is baking medible brownies….

@ImmedicableME So happy for both you. I had a breast cancer diagnosis last year and I know how scary it can be.

@ImmedicableME Phew! I am so glad it's fine. :blobcatgift:

@ImmedicableME that's so good to hear! Really pleased for you both 🤗😘

Doctors always want to cover all the bases. It's no bad thing, but it doesn't make life easy. Try and look after yourself as well, during all this. :bear_hugs:

@ImmedicableME It can't be bad news until it is - at least, this is how I try to trick myself into worrying less in situations like this. Sending hugs all around to you, your SO, and MIL(ish) person.
