1/ We face an existential risk to American democracy. What can we do to save our Republic?
Erica Chenoweth is a Harvard professor who has studied the question, identifying predictors of success of protest movements. There are 4 critical factors which are summarized here
https://peterkimdata.com/four-factors-for-social-movements-to-succeed/
2/ Factor 1:
“The single most important influence on a campaign’s success is the scale & range of popular participation. The larger & more diverse the campaign’s base of participants, the more likely it is to succeed."
Recruit your friends and family to protest Trump's authoritarianism.
3/
Factor 2: Shifting loyalties of the regime’s supporters.
Success of democracy movements depends on turning members of the security services & their elite benefactors.
Know a police officer or National Guard soldier? Talk to them now about what defending democracy means.
4/
Factor 3: Using a wide variety of tactics, not just demonstrations.
“Movements that shift among various tactics are more likely to succeed than movements that rely too much on a single method."
Be creative: boycotts, marches, walk-outs, flash-mob music, etc.
5/
Factor 4: Maintain discipline and resilience in the face of oppression.
“Movements tend to succeed when they develop staying power, which means cultivating resilience, maintaining discipline and sustaining mass involvement..."
