Did you know that egg shells can survive a 12 hour kiln firing session with temperatures tipping over 2230 degrees Fahrenheit (approx 1220 degrees Celsius)?!?! Well, I definitely didn't expect that one 😁.

I had dipped an egg shell in porcelain thinking I would just have a very thin egg-shaped porcelain piece after the kiln firing. Instead, there are actual eggshell remnants which is absolutely amazing!

@SylvieAlvarezArt did the structure crumble and collapse in the kiln? This experiment could lead to cool unexpected places 🤔

@enriquericos Exactly right! The structure crumbled during the firing but as you can see from the "after" photo a decent amount of the shell remained. Yes, definitely food for thought.

@SylvieAlvarezArt I don't have access to a kiln, but I'm hoping you'll keep trying things like this! I don't know why, but this sparked my curiosity. :)

@enriquericos Glad to have found a kindred spirit! I periodically run experiments like these but I don't usually post about them because I didn't think anyone else would find these interesting. I'm happy to be wrong about that. 😊

@SylvieAlvarezArt You have 🙂 . And experiments and mistakes are always interesting! I guess we don't post them because we're used to Instagram's fake perfection, with staged process vids and flawless execution, but they feel empty to me.
Seeing real, messy processes makes me empathize more with the artist and gets my brain working the problem, seeing the possibilities. We should all do it and create a different art culture on this platform :artaww:

@SylvieAlvarezArt I see you've been taking a look at my mostly empty profile 😅

I've been out of the game for some years, but I'm going back to uni next week, so I expect to make and post experiments and actual attempts at art.

@SylvieAlvarezArt So basically what you're telling me is chickens are casually knocking some kind of advanced heat resistant ceramic out of their omnibutts?

@freequaybuoy That is apparently what I'm finding, yes. All in the name of art😁

@SylvieAlvarezArt
That's because the insides of chickens typically run about 2k° F. It's from when we were dinosaurs.

@Mcdyer That's a good one. 😁 You actually had me looking up the internal temperature of a chicken. 🤣😊
