Something a bit different today...
There's a really nice Fediverse admin on here called @stux who provides lots of free decentralised public services (public instances of Mastodon, PeerTube, Pixelfed, Matrix, Nitter, Invidious, Searx etc).
Stux is spending hundreds of euros a month so that these services remain free and operational.
Apparently Stux has had a tough time finding work recently, but has their own small business which provides web hosting.
If you're looking for a small indie hosting provider, this might be a really good choice as the money raised will help keep the Fedi going too:

If you're using Mastodon through the website, you can stop new posts appearing automatically by using "slow mode".
To switch it on, go to Preferences > Slow Mode, tick the box and click "Save Changes". (To switch it off, untick and save.)
This will make timelines (including Home, Local and Federated) as well as notifications no longer scroll automatically when you are reading them. Instead, new posts will be hidden behind a clickable link at the top of each column.

A very quiet day. Also very hot. Like, 40° C (104°F). I managed to get out, use the coinstar machine at the grocery store (It counts your change and gives you a receipt to turn in for cash), and get a few groceries.
Been "bored snacking" today. Must not eat ALL the provisions I just bought!
Been doing a little #writing today. Only 180 words so far, but it's some good world-building/atmospheric stuff. 😁

The free open source livestreaming platform OwnCast has set up a demo server at:
It currently runs a loop of videos by people who self-host their livestreams using OwnCast, along with short videos promoting other libre projects.
If you run a free open project and have a short video (under 1 minute), you can have it added to this loop by contacting @owncast.
OwnCast servers include Fediverse compatibility, so you can follow them from Mastodon etc. When a stream you follow goes live, you'll see a message telling you about it in your timeline.
