UT Austin, my employer, beats and jails students engaged in peaceful protest, then manufactures propaganda that deeply misrepresents what the students were doing and had planned to do.
How am I supposed to work at an institution willing to hurt any students I recruit to come here? This is untenable.

Sad, indeed. I didn't attend UT-A, but have always held it in highest regard. Now I'd have a hard time recommending it.
@zachvat I would not come here.
@alexwild ugh I'm sorry.
Not an enviable position to be in. I used to tell recruiters that I wouldn't work for pharmaceutical companies or companies that made anything related to war, like aerospace. Most of the time, these recruiters were shocked. Not gonna compromise my ideals. 30 years in tech, I can at least sleep well at night, but the retirement funds aren't where they need to be! Educational institutions were never off the table, but ... wow.
@alexwild Lina Fisher does good work, and so does Jack Anderson. Amid all this mess I'm glad to have their reporting.
@alexwild I went to UT. I am hoping my children go to out-of-state schools if Texas is still controlled by Republican/fascists when they come of age.
@alexwild If there were a better, faculty-run program that explicitly did NOT brutalize its students, would you join?
@alexwild Don't Quit! Use you Voice! Stand up for what You Believe! UT Austin employee says UT Austin doesn't speak for him! Says, ...
@alexwild Sorry you’re in this position. That blows.
@alexwild Why are you there in the first place?
RE
why are you there in the first place?
Good question, #randirhodes on her podcast is looking at the facts that (as of 05 03 2024) they did find some #StudentProtestors are not students. Other #msnbc shows have early estimates by the #NYPD that about 35 arrested at #violentprotest at #columbiauniversity were not students
_Some_ might be members of the different #whitesupremacist groups
@alexwild So much for the leftist university trope.
@alexwild. Yes. It is untenable.
@alexwild
Join the protest. Encourage your colleagues to do the same. Solidarity!
@alexwild So have you resigned yet?
@alexwild What a tragic situation. I'm so sorry.
@alexwild Perhaps by working from inside the university you can find ways to help the student cause.
I am feeling it too.
@alexwild I feel like students and faculty could build something far better than our universities at this point.
@alexwild I get instant connection resets when I try to follow this link. It is available on the Internet Archive, though.
