KOSA, just passed by the Senate 91-3, will allow politicians and federal commissioners to decide what Americans should read and watch online. It’s a blatant attack on our free speech. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/07/kosa-internet-censorship-bill-just-passed-senate-its-our-last-chance-stop-it
@eff Super, duper curious if anyone here, particularly with a law background, has actually read the bill. I typically agree with the EFF, but my amateur attempt at reading it has me thinking that it: does not prevent kids from searching for stuff, does not mandate age verification, and doesn't apply to small social networks or any network not run by a for-profit corporation. It also has a lot of carve-outs for smaller companies and platforms with under 1,000,000 users
@eff I believe these details are specified in Sections 15.C.2, 3.B.1, and Definition 3.B.1 respectively (full text here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/1409/text)
@bleushift The EFF doesn't want you to actually read the bill.
