So, apparently #RMS is coming back to FSF and there's an open letter against that.
I've read the thing and they make perfectly valid points – but the thing I absolutely can't agree on is this implicit assumption that we as a community *need* "leaders".
We don't. And in fact it is this very assumption that enables these fucked up personal cults to emerge in the first place.
“Richard M. Stallman, frequently known as #RMS, has been a dangerous force in the free software community for a long time. He has shown himself to be misogynist, ableist, and transphobic, among other serious accusations of impropriety. We, the undersigned, ask for the entire Board of the #FSF to step down and for RMS to be removed from all leadership positions.”
This is honestly horrifying.
So they waited until the end to announce it.
This is what Microsoft did to Mixer.
What Google did to Stadia Games.
Why should we trust their leadership again?
@xinayder I read it, it was sent to me a lot this afternoon: I try to read various sources of info to keep rational opinion.
Still, I think if it was only misinterpretations; it would have been easy for him to fix it, clarify, adjust and post disambiguation when it was time. I see that very often on communication issues on other Floss project...
But even when he came back; it was made without clarification, disambiguation: just imposed out of the blue.
Definitely, not my cup of tea... 🍵
covid vaccins, mRNA, women in science
> From paving the way for mRNA vaccines to be used, to overseeing large-scale clinical trials, much of the critical work in bringing COVID-19 immunisations to the world has been done by women.
> Karikó, now 66, has spent more than 40 years of her life researching mRNA, but was repeatedly overlooked for funding.
RMS and the FSF
There is an open letter if you are against the return of RMS at the FSF https://rms-open-letter.github.io/
things sfconservancy does:
- legal support against GPL violations
- organizational support for FOSS projects
- financial support for FOSS projects
- outreach project to give marginalized people internships working on a FOSS project
things the FSF does, as far as I can tell:
- organize a conference
- other publicity stuff?
- keep RMS employed because nobody else will

rms, csa, epstein
Stallman is back on the board of the Free Software Foundation. A man who created a toxic environment for women at MIT for decades, whose bad take on Marvin Minsky's connection to Jeffrey Epstein was tantamount to rape-apologetics, is being allowed to return to the board, which just goes to show how toxic the FSF is.
They blamed it on a politically-motivated campaign of lies and misinformation. Without explaining or responding to how direct quotes from RMS are lies, and testimony from numerous women coming forward, they didn't address the "lies." Because they aren't lies. Stallman is the worst kind of academic leftist and I hope the FSF collapses under his leadership.
