@shietka I actually bought this one ... but for the life of me, I couldn't figure out the mechanics of the game, or how to progress past even the most basic part of the start/tutorial? I felt stupid for not grokking it... perhaps I'll give it a go again at some point.

@shietka It took me a full minute to parse that "Sorry, James" was the game's name. I kept thinking, "Was 'James' the name of the game, and you're apologizing for finding it weird?" 😆

As I sit here in a historically long Pacific Northwest heatwave caused by poor carbon policy, the song "We Didn't Start The Fire," written by a baby boomer, hits different.

Reminder: body shaming people—even shitty people—just harms your friends who are unhappy with, insecure about, or just working on their own bodies.

Yeah some dude is pasty white and chubby. So what? There are so many other behavioral and character issues you can focus on.

@ashfurrow SNW is AMAZING. It's THE Star Trek I've been waiting 20 years for. You can relate to the people and connect with them. It has that classic cheese of Trek, but you REALLY get the "explore strange new worlds. Seek out new life and new civilizations" feel that Star Trek has been missing since TNG imo.

DS9 and Voyager were great in their own way. I wasn't a fan of Enterprise. Discovery and Picard I've given up on.

#SNW is INCREDIBLE. #StrangeNewWorlds #SciFi #StarTrek

Happy Friday. Here's a mad banger of a tune that's somehow 15 years old but sounds like it's from the future. And sounds like a chipmunk singing over a band comprised of Transformers. Which is why I like it? Not for all tastes but I dig it.

Vegans, stop being ableist and fatphobic in the name of "animal liberation". Feeding into systems that oppress humans in favor of non-human animals is not the way.

Being constantly angry and outraged at the constantly terrible world events means that you have basic human empathy but it also means that you are being constantly traumatized.

Remember that you can't help others unless you help yourself first.

Finally, FINALLY played & am currently playing for the first time now that they're on .

Can totally see how they're both landmark games--and can't stop seeing several of their specific themes & mechanics in several games that followed ( , , , and even ).

@KevSaund Cuz there's no rule saying it can't be, I s'pose

If you are not watching Strange New Worlds, you are missing out on the best Star Trek, and possibly the best episodic Sci-Fi ever made.

This cast has dynamics, chemistry, and development.

Leadership morals at every turn.

Empathetic stories.

Amazing writing.

And somehow lessons that have been consistently on time.

I do not tolerate dangerous, life-threatening anti-choice, misogynist, homophobic, racist, TERFy ideology masquerading as "opinion" and I will not be entertaining both-sidesisms about why, for instance, I should be condemned to death by an ectopic pregnancy.

We have been conditioned by corporate news media and proprietary social media to react and comment to every sensational headline, every controversial news story immediately. Outrage boosts engagement, which brings in more money for these companies. Don’t play their game. And don’t feel like you have to do that here in the #fediverse. Sometimes - I daresay most of the time - the best thing to do is take time to process, understand, learn, and think before you say anything.

There's no place behind us in history that has the master key to what we're about to experience. We need to have the courage, creativity, & heart to envision a world better than has ever been created. We have to imagine it and do the work of creating it, because I guarantee you that those on the other end of the spectrum are doing exactly that.

Slavery but we can just arrest somebody on false pretenses and then get free labor forever? Well that's even better than the last time!
~
Completely controlling who gets to have children & when & how, but we can make it illegal rather than just frowned upon? And we can deputize gun-toting neighbors to go round them up? Well that's just Jim Dandy, ain't it?
~
Tracking protesters by photographing who's there and then hunting them down later using mobile data? Well hell, we don't even got to get them at the march then, do we? Who'da thunk it?!

They may not believe in science, but they're not stupid. They may not seem to have morals or ethics, but they definitely do. The idea that this is all just happening at random without anyone controlling it is the worst kind of liberal conceit. Worse than conceit - it's actively dangerous to underestimate enemies with this many minds, that much power, & the inertia of history behind them.

The Elysian Kingdom...I have to say...that was NOT the ending I was expecting.

I might just rank that one right up there with The Inner Light because of how much it moved me emotionally.
