Today, a somewhat different approach to converting a W126 S-Class into an estate (blue car) compared with the Zender example I posted yesterday (green car). This one was converted for the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. It mostly stood in her studio providing inspiration for her work rather than on the road. The incorporation of the curvy W126 sedan rear window into the design results in a very different look to the Zender car. Pic: 2023.

PS attn. @MarSolRivas - just googled the work of Yayoi Kusama - lots of bright colours!

@davidwilkins that is “quite challenging” on the design front. I like the idea someone has done it, but not the execution.

@CrackedWindscreen I don’t have a pic but the interior is ann also rather challenging very bright red! But it seems to chime with the colour palette she uses as an artist which is very bold

@davidwilkins now that's interesting. Didn't like it when I first saw it one it's own. The green one is exactly what you'd expect if MB made on themselves, but out them together and now I do like it.

@davidwilkins

I'll say it straight out, that's awful.

Skillful work for sure but if I had touched it, I'd deny it.

@nlarson830 I wasn’t keen on it when I first saw it but it’s grown on me a bit since. I’m fascinated by how the two cars can look so different when they are trying to do be the same thing, an S-Class estate. I suppose the Kusama car is trying to be a work of art but the Zender sets out to answer a different exam question, i.e. ‘what would a W126 estate look like if Mercedes designed it and made it themselves?’

@nlarson830 PS It also has a vivid bright red interior with amazing woodwork. I don’t have a pic but it can be seen in this video I just tracked down.

@davidwilkins

I'm doubling down on my previous statement.

Seriously, I had an XR4Ti and liked the look of the hatch/rear.
It does not work on big chonky Benz wagon. The roof rack support bits don't work either.

Socks on a rooster.

No offense intended art is subjective and personal.

The Zender is clear, "I'm a big burly Benz wagon like it says on my tin".
