I remember one of the things that motivated me to look into the state of decentralized social media (and ultimately begin working on Mastodon) in 2016 were talks that a controversial billionaire might buy Twitter.

For those arriving from Twitter, a recommendation: make yourself an introduction post, tag it (#Introduction), and pin it to your profile. It'll help people learn whether to follow you.

It's also good to learn about the different timelines on the site: Home (who you follow), Local (other people on your server), and Federated (the firehose of the whole wide world). You can post to any of those groups w/ the post privacy settings!
