Just watched the recording of The Game Awards.
You wouldn't tell from the name, but it's essentially a game trailer show now. Said awards are the least interesting part.
(I'm basically salty about the winners. MFS competing with strategies? NMS getting nothing for its epic comeback? Doom: Eternal not winning Best Action? TLOU2 winning a whackton of nominations with that uproar of detest during its release? Like, what?)
Being a native speaker, I often forget how complicated #Russian language can be. But filing #localisation issues, like this one in #Nextcloud Calendar app, forces me to remember:
...including realising the fact that I don't have an exact understanding of the structure of the language that I speak effortlessly every single day. Hm-m. 🤔
#Firefox on #Android has a very nifty option: "Open links in a private tab". Improved my mobile browsing experience significantly. 🧡➡💜
• Link about to be intercepted by an app? You get prompted, and can choose to continue in the browser.
• Most website lockouts based on the number of viewed pages (e. g. "sign up to continue!") stop working, thus treating you as a first-timer every time.
• No "attention baiting" with your private information, since you're not logged into anything by default.
Ho-o-oly-y-y-y Jesus. Looks like my home is about to get covered in white circular stickers. And this feature has been in for a while now!
I especially like the fact that unlike writing down a webhook URL into an NFC tag, this way every scan is authenticated, one has to be logged in with HA for the scan to have an effect. The options!
I'm noticing a pattern by the way. If there are custom firmwares available for a device, that device will probably be useful for a very good while.
So... my Amazfit Bip is now basically the perfect smartwatch. For me, anyway.
Previously it was only good at displaying notifications and waking me up, but now it also controls music and allows editing its alarms (time/weekdays). Yay! I just hope the battery life stays the same (about a month).
Kudos to MNVolkov over at myamazfit.ru for the sorcery that made all this possible. I'm sooo going to donate after I confirm the battery life.
Check out Bret Victor's blog. It's a good read.
Finally, someone who acknowledges that we're still mentally in the era of printing press. We already have a much more interactive medium before us, but refuse to make it easier to use, severely limiting its adoption and thus our collective mental capacity.
This is just how life is when you're dealing with trillion-dollar faceless corporations," said @aral, who has long campaigned against the control of our data – and lives – by big tech firms.

For some reason I keep coming back to this wonderful talk by Tim Ewald about the nature of power tools.
It's not immediately clear that it's the actual topic, especially given the fact that it happens at a Clojure conference...
With the most recent release of #NewPipe (0.20.0) I've spontaneously started picking it over the official #YouTube #Android app for playback. It's just that good now. Automatic transition to background/windowed playback when switching from the app *rocks*!
It's not a completely seamless transition yet, there's a noticeable hiccup when that happens, but I have faith in #opensource community.
Google to make third-party app store use easier with Android 12
The sign up section has been moved to a separate page, the confusingly interchanging usage of tech jargon like "instance" and "server" has been removed in favour of "community". The questions "can I move my account later" and "can I talk to people from other communities" is answered upfront. Categories are now at the front and the communities are grouped by language with a prominent language filter option. Communities that don't offer instant sign-up are now clearly marked as such upfront.
All the more amusing is that my answering machine's greeting addresses telemarketers first and then invites everyone else to leave a message. In a broad sense, it's working... 🤔
