He was involved in an incident with Max Verstappen, who was sent out of the race.
Hamilton got a 10-second penalty, but chased down leader Charles Leclerc.

The F1 sprint race explained
F1 Sprint will be a race run over 100km (in Silverstone's case, 17 laps) and lasting around 25-30 minutes. It is designed to provide a short and fast-paced racing spectacle with drivers racing flat-out from start to finish without the need to pit.

At the select rounds where sprint qualifying is used, the weekend format will be as follows:
First practice (60 mins)
Friday qualifying (60 mins - Q1, Q2, Q3 format)
Second practice (60 mins)
The sprint (100km race)
Grand Prix (305km race)
The Australian Grand Prix has been called off for the second year in a row because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Australian round of the MotoGP world championship, scheduled for 24 October, has also been cancelled.
The Formula 1 event was due to take place from 19-21 November but has been abandoned because of tight border controls in Australia.
FP III - Another third practice in the bag for Max Verstappen. The Red Bull is fastest, once again, with a time of 1:04.591.
Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas comes home second quickest with a 1:05.129, next it's team-mate Lewis Hamilton in third, 0.686 seconds away from Verstappen.
Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly finishes the session in fourth, while Antonio Giovinazzi ends a great practice run for Alfa Romeo in fifth.
Quickest in every sector means quickest by the end of the session for Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman tops the board once again in a Red Bull Ring practice session with a 1:05.143.
Despite both Ferraris struggling with the red car this morning, Charles Leclerc finishes second, with Carlos Sainz coming home third.
Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas and Yuki Tsunoda in the Alpha Tauri make up the top five.
The fastest times set by Hamilton and Verstappen in the session - albeit that the world champion's was deleted - suggested the title contenders are set for another close weekend.
