New users...

Remember that people can block you for whatever reason they like and it's none of your business.
They might not like the shape of the letters in your name, or the colour of your avatar, and that's perfectly valid.

Repeat: people can block you for no reason at all and it's not something to get het up about. Let people curate their own timelines like you want to be able to curate yours.

WOW. Yeah I've been on mastadon for like only five days now but I'm already flabbergasted at the world that should have been... w3.org/TR/activitypub/#Overvie

Like literally how did we all agree to just NOT have interoperable social networks??? Looking at the activity pub docs makes it clear how ridiculously easy that would have been. You want my content? Just GET my outbox. Want to send me something? Just POST to my inbox. The server can be anything you want, just format your messages in this (VERY INTUITIVE!) way. It's so simple it's STUPID.

I'm very new to all of this, so I'll admit that there's a lot I don't know, but what is painfully obvious right now is how, yet again, the tendrils of Capitalism have fundamentally altered the STRUCTURE of the Internet to make it less open, less empowering and generally WORSE for most users. However, what's also becoming clear is that it does not have to be that way, and being here is in some small way, bringing about that better possible future.

Frank Miller’s Ronin is a super important & influential book for me. & I jumped at the opportunity to work on FMP’s branding. I’m honored!

Sooo... wow... okay a lot of people shared the previous post! Welcome again to all the new members!

It might be good if I clarified how Mastodon works, as some people think they need to sign up on multiple servers etc.

Short version: You do not need to sign up on multiple servers! Don't have FOMO! One server works fine!

Longer version:

Mastodon is a federated network, which means it's made of lots of independent servers that talk to each other.

And... everyone uses federated networks all the time! You probably use them so much you never even think about it 😮

Telephones use a federated network, so does email.

You only need one phone to call anyone anywhere. It doesn't matter if they're on another phone company or in another country, because all phone companies are federated together into a single network.

That's how Mastodon works. You get an account, and you follow people you're interested in, and they appear in your timeline. It doesn't matter if they're on another server.

Show thread

So, Hyperspace on the Mac is OUT. The apostrophe issue stinks. I’m trying out Mastonaut this time, let’s see how this goes. Anyone have any Mac OS client suggestions?

I’ve been trying out different Mastadon clients. Obviously there’s an apostrophe issue going on in some cases. Boooooooo.

I've been having a blast working on the Shudder's Creepshow book with AMC Networks publishing (coming this fall!). The show's great and I think really hit its stride in season 2. S2 Episode 1 being my favorite... the Public Television of the Dead segment is set in the Evil Dead universe (Deadites & the Necronomicon!), which was a huge surprise. I'm curious what other segments stand out for folks!

Here’s mine, plus a few!
