a theory: people like closed source and centralized services because they can simply assume they're built correctly. while all systems have flaws, open systems are honest and allow you to see them.

this is not new: a comfortable lie is preferable to an uncomfortable truth.

@logburn Centralized services tend to have better marketing and branding, in general. If it’s obscure or esoteric, and not simple to get on board, most people will shy away from it.
