I didn’t quit pot. It quit me. At a new year’s eve party in 1983, I was completely desireless, for the first time ever. I had spent the last two months doing free-base cocaine (before it was called “crack”), 4 nights a week, one gram a night.

I no longer wanted coke, or cannabis. I found my meditation path a couple of months later, and alcohol dropped away that summer. I turned 27 in April of that year.

Thus ended nine years of being stoned, almost every day. It was only recently that I tried it again, and discovered that completely losing my short memory is not my idea of a good time.
