Looks like Musk removed a major new pro-Harris account from the deadbird site.
UPDATE: Account appears to have been reinstated.
Meanwhile, journalists continue to directly support one of democracy's (and journalism's) major enemies by actively participating there.

In case any journalists are interested in a real story, this censorship of the Harris dudes is certainly it. In fact, the entire reason the richest man in the world bought the biggest social network is to assert improper influence on the upcoming election, and he is doing it. Over and over again. But you can't write about it because you are dependent on the social network he controls. Do you see the problem here? Isn't this a really good story? Except you can't write about it.

He demonstrated this immediately with the plane-gate where he banned any journalist that dared to mention that his plane was tracked on a public account using publicly available data. Journalists were banned, some fought to be reinstated, and a few realized the site was deliberately killing news it didn't approve of so they moved on. But the tone was set.
@mastodonmigration @dangillmor Dependent how exactly? Referral traffic from X to publisher sites was averaging about 2% a few years ago and reports since then continue to say that referral traffic from X is ever-declining.
Right you are! Perhaps should halve said that they irrationally perceive they are dependent on X and fear the ban hammer.
@mastodonmigration @dangillmor Yeah, when journalists amass sizeable followings, it's tough to jeopardize that. I had 15k+ followers on X but left a year or so ago and haven't been back since. Too toxic over there.

If not a financial dependence on referral traffic, there's the emotional dependence on the engagement one gets by posting on a platform where one already has a large follower count, versus starting from 0 on a new platform and feeling like you are speaking into an unfamiliar void.
