I’m surprised that while my Bluesky account has grown by 8000 followers — DOUBLED to 16k+ — in just the last week since the election, my Mastodon count hasn’t changed at all.

Is Mastodon not seen as an alternative to Twitter?

Or is my account hard to find for those not following me?

Honestly curious.

@BrentToderian I think there is still a decent discoverability problem on Mastodon when you compare it to the start packs Bluesky is doing…that and the fact that I personally believe they’re riding hype train and seeing a lot more growth than here

A resource for Daimler Benz drivers, 1905:
1 Make sure you mix your fuel octane correctly or the engine will knock!
2 Depress the clutch before engaging the gears, or the engine will stall!

A resource for BYD U9 drivers, 2024:
1 The car is Electric, so no fossil fuel or engine oil needed
2 Press this button to turn it on. This pedal means go faster. This one means slow down.
3 The end

The only problem with the U9 is that unbeknownst to you, it monitors your thoughts and locks the doors and auto-drives you to a prison labor camp if it determines you are impure. Other than that it is a great car.

[Edit: So this 'joke' (never joke on social media) was misunderstood. The point here was not some comment on China vs. US prison regimes, but rather that sometimes the more convenient thing comes with strings attached.]

Sorry, not commenting on anything to do with China, so it is a bad analogy. The point you seemed to be making was that new better simpler to operate things are more attractive than kludgy complex things, like Mastodon. And, no argument that is absolutely true. And in many ways Mastodon is deficient, absolutely agreed. The point, and joke which obviously missed, is that those attractive things can come with strings attached.
