> bogbook is a distributed social networking application using TweetNaCl.js to publish signed append-only logs to your browser's IndexedDB using localForage.

> The bogs are then gossiped between your bog client and bog 'pub' servers using websockets. You're responsible for syncing your messages between different bog 'pub' servers. Bog 'pubs' themselves don't talk to each other, instead they only talk to clients.

hi all, anyone have recommendations for articles about running tildeverse servers/pubnixes? I'm looking for manifestos, theoretical approaches, historical reports and personal accounts as much as I'm looking for practical advice and technical information

(I am aware of Paul Ford's tilde.club medium post)

Today, ten years ago, a demonstration in every Spanish city started the 15M. A social movement, inspired in part by the Arab Spring and that inspired other movements such as Occupy, that changed the political spectrum in the country. Most will say that it changed nothing, but that's not true. It helped create networks of people that, although they may be dormant today, still exist. I am very proud of having been part of that experience. (And I feel kind of old when I think it was ten years ago)

Apparently the new audacity owners are adding telemetry to it :/ This is....concerning. Especially because that PR discussion has _zero_ opposition to the feature being added

"software design for flexibility" by chris hanson and gerald jay sussman will be out in 8 days.

all the e-books i can find for it have drm applied which would usually rule out a purchase for me. but, i can make an exception in this case because the text is going to be creative commons-licensed, just like sicp!

(i even double-checked with author chris hanson, who was kind enough to reply to an internet rando's email!)

The new OnionShare is out!

It adds a bunch of great features like tabs, anonymous chat that never logs anything, and better command line support.

Here's the blog post: micahflee.com/2021/02/onionsha

Last year, we spent 51 days at sea during the passage from Japan to Canada, it was the hardest thing we had ever done. We kept a physical logbook of daily happenings onboard. This is that logbook, revised, and with a ton of extra notes.

After browsing a few twitter threads, I'm now convinced we should replace captchas with basic math questions involving McDonald's, CEO pay, and minimum wage.
