Forged in a fusion reaction in the heart of a star, a photon streaks out through the cold depths of space. Millions upon millions of miles, its time-dilated view, a frozen universe. It streaks through the atmosphere of a small world, avoiding absorption by a ridiculous number of air molecules, to end its journey hitting my optic nerve, walking me up, as the cat pushes the curtains open. Ouch.

"Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" is excellent.

Making my favorite fried rice recipe. A little toasted sesame oil goes a long way. When they say half a teaspoon (for four cups of rice) they mean it. I made that mistake once... Once.

You can definitely have too much of a good thing.

@swaggboi Write it up. There needs to be a directory of how to disable IoT stuff on appliances.

@JoannaKarolinaMalinowska Content warnings aren't about "things which must be hidden" so much as they're about "I'm talking about this topic, so you can engage or not as you choose". If you make a mistake, someone will let you know, and they're generally gentle about it.

Politics, anything that might be NSFW, religion, mental health - all good things to CW and generally considered fairly obvious. Everything else is a little more hit or miss and will depend on the people around you.

also idk if I've mentioned this or not but I am having a genuinely good & fun time posting & interacting on the fediverse!

I love that I feel more like I'm talking to Real People who Engage Helpfully with my posts than everyone Collectively Venting Near each other...

Probably not a lot of people know this now, but Mastodon's web app started out with "Publish". In 2016 a famous YouTuber jokingly offered to support Mastodon's Patreon forever if I changed the button to say "Toot" instead. Needless to say, this was a really early, and not very informed decision. The first glimpse of attention and financial support. As a non-native speaker I had no idea there was another meaning.

If you can't actually reprogram it, modify it or fix it, it's not home automation. It's the divine right of things.

Say it with me again: Every smart contract has a built in bug bounty program worth 100% of whatever is in the contract.

We do things not because they are easy, but because we thought they were going to be easy.

If you had an idea for a story and then you put that story into words (in full or in progress)

then you are cool as heck.

I will accept no arguments on this.

Cool As Heck!

A reminder that Mastodon and the Fediverse do NOT use cryptocurrency, blockchains, NFTs, tokens, coins, mining, web3 or anything like that.

Masto and the Fedi run on traditional servers and use a sustainable network federation model somewhat similar to e-mail (that's why Fediverse addresses look similar to e-mail addresses).

Also a reminder there are no venture capital firms or other investors either. No one owns the network, each server is independent. Masto and Fedi server running costs are paid by their owners, sometimes with donations from users.

No one is getting rich from the Fediverse, it is all volunteers with some getting donations and a few getting modest grants from foundations. Please remember this when you interact with admins or developers.

(There might be some individual users who post about cryptocurrency/blockchain, but the infrastructure this place runs on doesn't use it at all.)

Tl:dr - Decentralisation does NOT mean cryptocurrency/blockchain

One of the things I miss about the Google plus interface was how easy it was to search for/find & create small communities of interest.

I wish there was a way to do that more simply in the fediverse.

Would love to find more #writers, especially #specfic (#sciencefiction & #fantasy) writers.

There are some hashtags that can help us find one another - #amwriting & #amwritingscifi for example, but I don't thing many folks use them.

So, where are my spec fic writers at???

(Boosts welcome!)

I have just got this banana and Nutella cake out of the oven. It is the most delicious smelling thing I have ever baked, without question 🥮
