what I love about mastodon is I use the hashtags instead of the hashtags using me

another doodle from a water color class I took at our public library. this is me illustrating my daily dog walking route on our islAnd. i feel like this is an illustration from a childrens book and I am the child protagonist, that I could slip in and out of the illustrated version of myself

If you love books, the best part of the Fediverse is probably @bookwyrm, a GoodReads-style social reading network.

More info and sites to sign up on are at:

Because it uses the same ActivityPub protocol that powers the rest of the Fediverse, you can follow BookWyrm accounts from Mastodon etc.

For example, the lead developer of BookWyrm has an account at @mouse

1 week on and I’m loving it. I wasn’t looking for “Twitter without the Twitter”, learning something new is always exciting. Most of all it’s the relaxed atmosphere here that I love. I’ve made several new online friends, and I count friends by quality not quantity. Within 2 days I stopped missing Twitter altogether. I’ve found a new online home here.

International Workers' Day.

It's either May 1st, or the first Monday of May.

The eight-hour work-day, the weekend, workers' compensation, living wage laws...

So you just arrived here from twitter and it's quiet. Real quiet. That's because there's no algorithm here designed to drive engagement(which equals profit).

Here, you are the algorithm. It's up to you to find and follow people that are interesting to you. You can also see who they follow and who else follows them, as you build it up, it gets more interesting.

Also, if you find people you don't like or entire instances you don't like, you can mute or block them. You are in control.

via pics! I ride a bike with a trailer, I live on a small island in , we had big tides last week (good for tide pooling), and we are re-naming our new fishing boat right now so here’s a mock up with the new name - F/V Aero

One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.

It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.

It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!
