Hi! I'm a game developer from France, mostly working on the technology aspect of games, but also dealing with gameplay from time to time.

I'm rather a shy social network user: I only had 32 followers on twitter despite creating my account in 2011... Not a very hard target to break here :)

I'm going to write mostly in english and sometime in french (sorry for the people not understanding one of the two languages!)

I'm thinking of ordering a Boox Nova Air C as a replacement for my loyal ebook reader (Nook Simple Touch) that is starting to show its age too much.

Is that a good choice? Should I wait for another model that will be unvailed soon? Any tips would be welcome!

This looks interesting: A MongoDB clone written in Go using PostgreSQL as the back-end.

The link for "Why we need FerretDB" makes a compelling case and I wish them well.

(Note: not the place to air grievances about MongoDB. I was there in 2009 implementing it. That's why I don't use MongoDB for anything anymore)

birdsite, Game community manager rant

There is something bothering me when I see on , managers wishing to a fictional .

Seriously, who cares about the of a completely made up character? Also shouldn't its birthdate be the day of the release of the first it appeared in?

For amending my negativity: "Happy existence" to all game that their creator brought to the world!
Every released is a prowess.

Found out today that there is a free official version of one of my favorite : Codenames! It has both the original version and the duet version. Pretty cool.

I just noticed "foreach" on npm is controlled by a single maintainer.

I also noticed they let their personal email domain expire, so I bought it before someone else did.

I now control "foreach" on NPM, and the 36826 projects that depend on it.

#Gamification, turning something serious into a game, has earned an undeserved bad reputation by those abusing it for their own gains. Like any game it is neither good or bad, ethical or unethical.

Similar to Deception Patterns / Deceptive Design I propose a new term to distinguish the rotten apples..

#Gamipulation: A form of gamification that manipulates people without their informed consent and with hidden motives that are not in their benefit and best interest.

I like this name, but WDYT?

I really like this article from 2020 on the difference between "REPL-driven" programming languages vs "just programming languages that happen to provide a REPL".

This is basically my complaint about systems like Javascript (Node is *a little more* REPL-friendly than, eg, Python, but you still often get a strong sense that the REPL is a place You Should Not Really Be - for example, if you try to do ES6 imports)

French politics

Historic moment in France: all the major left wing parties decided to unite and form a coalition for the next parliament election.

What was seen as impossible for a while is done. This open new perspective in the upcoming French election in June where Macron could lose the absolute parliament he currently control. This election could bring Mélenchon (leader of the radical left) to the power as prime minister and real leader of the country allowing him to shift France to the left.

🎨 A painting/Fediverse experimentation:

With percentages of Red, Green and Blue, you can obtain a precise RGB color definition.

So, please vote for one or more color channel and with the mix of all the votes, I'll challenge myself to paint a fantasy landscape, using the result as the dominant color.

(PS: I'm doing full time inking/penciling on episode 37 and a bit of colored art cool-down would be great! Also I need a bit of 'Fedifun' this week. Thanks for your votes and boosts! )

With behind us, it made me think about my favorite .
My heart is balancing between Blade Runner and Gattacca.

If I was only judging visuals I'd choose Blade Runner.

But I will select Gattacca, because I consider that a good work is supposed to make you think and find the scenario of Gattacca actually more in-line with this goal.

I regret that the ending scene where a list of important people with known disease was cut from the .

What's yours?

The best way to proceed is to your main operating system by using a that revert to its initial state upon closing it.

This is easy to setup with most and is available in 10+ by installing Windows Sandbox in the optional features.

Per-toot language selection would be a blessing for multi-language users (you can specify the language you are writing in, and followers will be able to filter based on language they understand).

This feature is currently studied on this github link: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

It's not a difficult task according to the first comments, it's just not prioritized for some reason.

Boost this toot for spreading the info, and if you have github, please vote there to raise its priority!

Narcissus & Echo

Here is my modern take on the well known myth from the Metamorphoses of Ovid. An old artwork from 2006.

This morning, I decided to upgrade the quality and share the full resolution. I remixed a bit the artwork and switched the license to Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Int.

That's a long process to free my art from the past, I hope you'll like it even if the style shift is huge compare to what I do now. We all have metamorphosis, right?
