One of our customers uses #Slack (well, I assume several of them do), and they want us to communicate with them through that platform. The more I use it, the more I hate it.
They use threads, heavily. And maybe I'm looking with my eyes closed, but I can never see which threads have new messages in them. Customer gets pissed because I don't react immediately, I get pissed because I have to actively look for new messages... Cut me some slack, please!
Once this project is finally completed, I'm going to exert all the force I have to make them switch to #Matrix. Matrix supports threads too (ok, still beta atm, but works like a breeze), and at least you get a reasonable overview of which threads have new messages.

I've never used Slack but many told me that Matrix is very similar to Slack. Is it right?

Well, #Matrix and #Slack share a lot of functionality (create rooms, send group and individual messages, use threads, that kind of stuff), but there are some fundamental differences.
Slack is centralised, commercially owned and closed source, where Matrix is federated, fully open source (server and client) and uses a completely open and well documented API and can be self hosted.
