An image doesn't have to be recent to be good. Astronomer Alan Dyer took this photograph from his home on December 19, 2013, showing a splendid solar halo produced by dissolved ice crystals in Earth's atmosphere. These crystals must have a certain size and density, as well as an ideal position of the Sun with respect to the horizon.
