I'm taking @sir 's advice and switching from Protonmail to Migadu.
I was a paying customer of Protonmail but they've dropped the ball in many places. SMTP/IMAP support was the first (and the bridge was only for paying customers until recently!), no scheduled messages the second, and realizing the broken security model (even before Drew's post) the third, and I'm sure others could list other reasons.
While I don't think Protonmail is spying on emails, their system is broken.
I think Docker was created as people took an old programmer`s joke too seriously.
Customer: Software does not work!
Developer: It works on my machine!
Manager: So we just ship your machine to the customer. Problem solved.
General-purpose OS, special-purpose OS, and now: vendor-purpose OS
Surveillance capitalism is the same as climate change, but for data:
- Some people have been warning about its consequences for years
- Most people don't care because they don't feel concerned, they can't see it affecting them
- A few companies are making a lot of damage with the help of governments
- When we will face the consequences it will be too late
- We can still do something about it, and the sooner the better
It'll take some time for my trust in #WesternDigital to recover after the #SMR fiasco. https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/comments/heybkq/wd_launches_red_plus_with_cmr/
So suddenly there’s a lot of attention around email and it’s exposing how many people in the web community still use Gmail. Like actually trust all your personal information and communication (and that of your potentially marginalised or vulnerable contacts) with Google. 🤮
There are a lot of hard problems and lack of alternatives when it comes to rights-respecting technology. But email (as imperfect as it is) has a fair few affordable alternative providers. Small change, big difference.
Thanks for your participation, everybody.
As a new convert to lsp-mode, so far I only dislike the way it keeps a list of known project directories. It's troublesome when using some highly temporary directories for experimentation. But I'll figure something out.
This is a brand new server run by the main developers of the project as a spin-off of mastodon.social It is not focused on any particular niche interest - everyone is welcome as long as you follow our code of conduct!
