Strange how most of what we see of others is dead. Until someone starts bleeding and their living cells escape the cage of dead cells that imprisons them. I'd like to imagine the blood cells happy for just one moment about breaking free of the chains, just before they realize that whatever they could possibly achieve on their own is nowhere as meaningful as helping me stay alive and write this stupid toot.
Great write-up on the insanity of social media culture wars:
Software engineers are constantly subjected to the same conundrum Blaise Pascal faced when he wrote, “I would have written a shorter letter, but I didn’t have the time.”
Not the greatest of photos but I think I managed to catch a glimpse of a falling Perseid!
I got my hands on the German version of #Fallout Nev Vegas and thought, why not try it. Might spice things up.
Spicy indeed: The translation of the in-game magazine "Programmer's Digest" is "Informatik Intim". Which translates back to "Intimate computer science".... Wow. Tell me more, professor Abelson. How deep do the sexpressions go?
In other news, the FSF is having a totally normal one again.
The plural of "index" is "indices".
The plural of "vertex" is "vertices".
The plural of "mutex" is "deadlock".
food for thought, cloudflare
I contacted a website owner about Cloudflare making their website hard to use and found this part of their reply remarkable:
> It was needed because [...] I
don’t know much about web development.
Perhaps the real reason for the prevalence of Cloudflare is that its users think they need it, but don't know nearly enough about the web to accurately gauge whether they need it and how to use it correctly.
And who would have guessed that the anti-COVID-safety-measures demo would have to be stopped because COVID safety measures were not respected?
