Because these aspects of history are more than objectionable; they are unfathomable. Literally unthinkable.
If MAGA were to accept what scholars know about America's past, it would cost them the whole basis of their self-image. It would require them to relinquish their superiority.
Has Donald Trump ever set foot inside the National Museum of African American History and Culture? Has he taken time with the exhibits there or attempted to take an education from its programs?
Of course not.
Yet he KNOWS the museum is insane and un-American.
What’s REALLY insane and un-American, for Trump, is the possibility of ill-gotten gains, black humanity, or anything that would give lie to the claims of white supremacy.

*This* was my take away from the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture but I have been unable to articulate it.
@xankarn Chris Hedges interview with philosopher Jason Stanley had an interesting perspective on this. In erasing the history of collective action, the goal is to emphasise that great men create history, and ordinary people can do nothing.

Yep. The white privilege folks will do anything, even vote against their own self interest, to keep their feeling of superiority.
I think back to the poor rural whites who fought in the Civil War to protect the plantation owners, "The Real Housewives of the Old South." They were fighting to keep their legal/social place above Black folk.
