In the UK and Ireland it's so wet that even when they have a roof it's often insufficient. So take them into a shed or porch (cold and dry). Although you can buy them, they're easy to make for a fraction of the cost so why wouldn't you have a go?"

The downy woodpecker (Dryobates pubescens) is going after invasive sculptured resin bees (Megachile sculpturalis) from Asia, so I'm not super concerned.
