"I might be called a Common Firecrest, but there is nothing common in my beautiful fiery streak of head feathers!"
Who names birds, anyway? No bird is common or should have that word in its name.

It seems this white-throated sparrow was embarrassed about molting and went shopping for a wig
Continuing the theme of birds being cute, a baby raven perches on what looks like the top of a carved stone statue or fountainhead and leans down to see what's below. It's so young that its eyes are still light blue, and the gape and bottom part of the beak are a light pink. Given that it appears to be summer, my best estimate is that it's just a few months old.
The photographer is Judy Mason.
I mentioned on Bluesky that a tufted titmouse will sometimes raise its tuft as an aggressive gesture, and got a reply with a wonderful little video of one doing exactly that. The account name is... wait for it... TUFTED TITMOUSE!!
Say hello to a shy little chickadee.

There are some common buzzards nesting in the inner courtyard at work. I'm enjoying watching their antics as they come and go, hopefully we get babies!

Still cold, but ducks don't seem to mind, gathering the sun.

Time for some adorableness.
This is a piping plover on the beach standing guard over her two chicks. They are TINY.

Edit: I am informed by @Avloky that she is being a "Mombrella," shielding her babies from the sun and other weather. A perfect description!
here are some Atlantic Puffins from the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
Dug out this flowerbed and seeded with a great mix of wildflowers. Now netted to keep the #birbs off the seeds for a bit…
TIL about an incredible bird called the Arctic Tern, every year it flies from one side of the planet to the other and back again:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arctic_tern
"Recent studies have shown average annual round-trip lengths of about 70,900 km (44,100 mi)"
A bird species that migrates 70,000 kilometres every year!
New illustration! This fantastic #ShortStory is weird, tense, grimly hopeful, has striking visuals, and there's almost nothing i love drawing more than creepy #birbs
