Equestrian statue of János Hunyadi. A 15th century general who defended the country against the Turks. (By winning the battle of Belgrade in 1456.
He eventually became regent of Hungary.
The sculptor is Pál Pátzay, who made the original in 1956 which stands in Pécs. This is a replica that has been here since 1986.

(1676-1735), the leader of the Hungarian uprising against the Habsburgs.
Equestrian statue by György Zala in 1906 of Gyula Andrássy
(1823 – 1890). A Hungarian statesman, who served as Prime Minister of Hungary (1867–1871) and subsequently as Foreign Minister of Austria-Hungary (1871–1879).
The statue was removed by the communists after 1945 and reinstated in 2016.

"After five months in Fresnes prison, Rexhino “Gino” Abazaj, a 32-year-old Albanian anti-fascist activist, was released yesterday (March 26) under judicial supervision. He was arrested in Montreuil in November 2024 and faces up to 24 years in prison if extradited to Hungary for alleged violence against neo-Nazis. His case, which has triggered a broad mobilization of activists, trade unions and politicians, will be heard by the Paris Court of Appeal on 9 April.
While Hungarian authorities accuse anti-fascists of participating in a “criminal organisation” and committing violent acts., neo-Nazi participants in the same clashes were released without prosecution. Hungary’s vague assurances about detention conditions and trial fairness have also drawn sharp criticism."

Tegnap újabb tüntetésre került sor Budapesten. Eredetileg az Erzsébet-hídra hirdettek demonstrációt, de a rendőrség ezt betiltotta. Végül a Ferenciek terén gyűltek össze a tiltakozók és 4 budapesti hídat is elfoglaltak az éjjel során. A demonstrálókat végül az Alkotmány utcában bekerítette a rendőrség, véget vetve a tüntetésnek. Ma azonban a Kúria elmarasztalta a hatóságokat, jogszerűtlenül tiltották be az eredeti eseményt.
