I needed some boards for garage shelves. Home Depot is close buy, but they support fascists. I tried OSH across town (originally Orchard Supply Hardware, resurrected as Outdoor Supply Hardware). A fine store for plenty of things but kind of ridiculous prices for wood. Ended up at an old-school lumber yard in San Carlos, "OK Lumber". I've seen people around town with T-shirts from this place, that say "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK", so I've been predisposed to like them a bit. Anyway, I found some cheap cedar boards there. They were intended for fencing, and pretty rough, but it was a quick job to sand them smooth. And now the garage smells really nice.
(This is hardly #carpentry but I'll throw in the hashtag anyway).
