Ben<p>Train timetables for Latour-De-Carol, updated for 2025 and visualized as slopegraphs. I find this useful, because I travel between Toulouse and Barcelona regularly, but the Rodalies trains don't seem to be on any journey planners</p><p>Possible reasonable connections (&lt;1 hour) are circled in green. 🙄 </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/crossborderrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crossborderrail</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/sncf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sncf</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/catalunya" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>catalunya</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/occitanie" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>occitanie</span></a></p>
Ian Jackson<p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a> 2/2</p><p>Eurostar: Clerk 1: Cheaper if you rebook it yourself. Change your London to Brussels ticket to the earlier train; buy a separate Brussels to Amsterdam ticket for the same train. Try to get the same seat or at least same carriage.</p><p>Eurostar website: No such Brussels to Amsterdam train.</p><p>Agent 2: Err. Oh that train is set down only at Brussels so you can't buy that ticket. Me: but I'm not joining at Brussels. Agent: We "can't" sell you that ticket. And we "can't" change your London to Brussels ticket to go to Amsterdam, that's "against the ticket conditions". You must change trains in Brussels. Me: Couldn't I buy a new London to Amsterdam ticket? Agent 2: Oh yes, but it would be a €25 fee for the cancellation of the old ticket. (Calculations follow.) Me: OK do that.</p><p>So now I have a slightliy earlier departure and a couple of hours in Amsterdam. And a bill to present to oebb.</p><p>Oh and I must cancel that refundable hotel room I booked in Woergl just in case.</p>
Ian Jackson<p>oebb SMS: Your sleeper that you were taking from Kassel (central Germany) to Jenbach (Tirol) has "changed or been removed from the timetable"</p><p>oebb clerk 1: Your train is cancelled. We could rebook you onto this other sleeper from Kassel. Oh weird, it seems to be closed for bookings. Please phone again on another day.</p><p>oebb clerk 2 (later): Your train doesn't stop in Kassel any more - nothing between Deventer and Würzburg. The other sleeper has no sleeper berths left, just seats. Me: I can get to Amsterdam or Deventer if I rebook my earlier trains. Clerk: OK keep the same ticket then; train leaves Amsterdam 19:00.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a> 1/2</p>
Liminal witch 🧙‍♀️ Sarah<p>I was aware that Maribor is the last city in the south direction beyond which reliable trains are not exactly the norm.</p><p>But going by train from Maribor to Barcelona via Paris is a bit ridiculous (that’s what Scotty tells me)</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a></p>
Sam Cage<p>That's speaking as a regular traveller. As a first-timer, I would probably have just decided, tried it once, and that's enough.</p><p>No German security theatre on the border though.</p><p>And to end on a positive note, the trains are pretty full - so clearly the demand is there.</p><p><a href="https://rail.chat/tags/train" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>train</span></a> <a href="https://rail.chat/tags/travel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>travel</span></a> <a href="https://rail.chat/tags/nighttrains" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nighttrains</span></a> <a href="https://rail.chat/tags/rail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rail</span></a> <a href="https://rail.chat/tags/crossborderrail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>crossborderrail</span></a></p>

Jon Worth<p>😀 New York Times is writing about international railways in Europe <a href="https://gruene.social/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a> </p><p>😡 It's a mixture of ideas presented as reality (especially on ticketing), lines re-opening after a line closure presented as progress, and some vague stuff about the Channel Tunnel</p><p>I suppose that they're talking about rail is progress?</p><p><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/travel/in-europe-new-trains.html" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">nytimes.com/2025/02/10/travel/</span><span class="invisible">in-europe-new-trains.html</span></a></p>

rail 🦊<p>wow Europe is so good at international cooperation and can agree on so many things i'm sure they have figured out everything about railways and <a href="https://bark.lgbt/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a> in general that it's not a problem in the slightest to quickly, cheaply and comfortably cross the continent without flying</p><p>there are certainly no problems with booking, changes, responsibility for problems with trains crossing borders or any of that</p><p>right?</p><p>right????? 😅</p>

David Ho<p>Today’s <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23CrossBorderRail" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#CrossBorderRail</a> will involve Deutsche Bahn. samuele963<p>Rode on the first two international <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/CrossBorderRail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CrossBorderRail</span></a> trains between Nova Gorica and Gorizia (nr. 7973 and 7985), here's a brief summary:</p><p>- Absolutely no people on the train at all, definitely single digits at most. Disappointing, but not surprised, this was barely advertised in the media<br>- Still no paper timetables for this in Nova Gorica (forgot to check in Gorizia). Slovenian displays don't show the trains at all. Italian announcements pronounce Nova Gorica wrong, as expected<br>- Only way to buy tickets online is via the TI app; TI machines and SŽ ticket counter works fine</p><p>cc <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://gruene.social/@jon" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>jon</span></a></span></p>
