The #DOJ is considering merging the lead agencies enforcing #drug & #gun laws in a major shakeup as it moves to follow #Trump's instructions to sharply *streamline* the govt.

In addition to merging the Drug Enforcement Agency #DEA & Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives #ATF, DOJ leaders are considering eliminating field offices that handle #antitrust & #environmental cases, according to a March 25 memo seen by Reuters.

@richpuchalsky #DOGE is closing the #DEA office in Andover, Mass. The fentanyl we get in NH comes from the Lawrence Mass area.

I’m totally fine with fewer cops on the streets that just want to harass people who are self-medicating because they can’t get healthcare, but closing the DEA office next-door to the suppliers isn’t how we cut down on #fentanyl in the streets.

The govt did not ID those extradited. But the AP & Mexican newspaper Milenio, citing unidentified ofcls, said they included Caro Quintero, who was long the #DEA’s most-wanted man. He was accused of killing DEA agent Kiki Camarena in Mexico in 1985. Caro Quintero was freed from a Mexican prison on a technicality in 2013, & arrested again in 2022.

Experts have raised questions over #Trump’s demand that Canada halt the flow of #Fentanyl into the USA.

Actually there is so little fentanyl entering the US through its northern border that the US Drug Enforcement Administration (#DEA) omitted to even mention #Canada in a 2020 report, instead it only mentioned #Mexico, #China and #India.
