I’m a big #DireStraits fan but their biggest hit, Money for Nothing, is a problematic listen. The song is sung in character of working class manual labourers & includes sexist & homophobic language from that perspective. Difficult to sing along with the none-more-redmeat riff’s muscularity as you’re either endorsing those sentiments or patronising & vilifying working class manual labourers as being sexist & homophobic. Which in fairness they probably were in 1985

40 years ago this week, "Private Dancer" by #TinaTurner entered the #Top10 at 9. It peaked at 7 on 23 Mar 1985. This might be my favourite of her songs, contrasting the wistful lyrics and the funky melody. I just learned it was originally written and recorded by #DireStraits, but never released.
