Lunch in the Czech Railways #ČD @diningcar on the #Prague to #Budapest #EuroCity “Metropolitan”. These big diners with a real kitchen and a chef will be phased out in the months to come. They will be replaced by cars of the #ComfortJet type, serving convenience food which is just warmed up on board.

#EuroCity Memling, running between Belgium and Germany in the 1990s and named after the 15th century German-Flemish painter Hans Memling, was the train originally displaying this livery.

After a handful of train trips to Brussels this year, I still don't really understand the #Eurocity Direct Brussels - Amsterdam (-Lelystad). It runs more or less at the same time as the much cheaper (especially with flexibility) and more comfortable EuroCity coaches.

Seen last week at St. Margrethen(SG) , while travelling on the #Zurich to #Munich #EuroCity: a #Siemens #Desiro ML unit, registered as #ÖBB Class 4748.500, working an S-Bahn service for #Bregenz . The goods shed on the left, and its loading ramp, bear witness to some freight activities in the old days.

From #Amsterdam #Schipol to #Brussels with an #NS #ICNG (standing for InterCity New Generation, I think). The NS Ticket App knows the type, and the composition of the train, labelled “#Eurocity Direct”. We travel over the high-speed line, paralleling the conventional one.

Some train destination signs are simply bigger than others: this one’s painted over the entire kitchen area of the train’s @diningcar. (This the 09:33 #Zurich to #München #SBB Class #RABe503 #ETR610 #Eurocity).

This is #EuroCity-service 151 "Emona" from #Vienna to #Ljubljana and #Trieste with its unique #diningcar during a sunny day !

Innsbruck this afternoon: boarding #EuroCity #Transalpin for #Zurich. This train is (almost) one of a kind: it comes with a Swiss Panorama Car and with one of the very few #ÖBB full diners still remaining in service. Clearly a reason to enjoy a late lunch in the @diningcar.

Eine schöne klassische #Kurswagen-Verbindung sind die beiden 2. Klasse-Wagen im EC 102/IC 202 von #Wien Hbf nach #Wrocław Główny über #Ostrava (vor einem Jahr eingeführt).

In #Bohumín wird der Zug getrennt, der Stammzug fährt über #Zebrzydowice weiter nach #Kraków. Die Kurswagen hingegen werden abgehängt und verkehren als eigenständiger Zweiwagen-Zug über #Chałupki nach Wrocław. Mit einer Fahrzeit von 5h15/20 Min ist man schneller als mit allen Umsteigeverbindungen.

Concluding today’s long voyage with dinner in the #ÖBB #EuroCity #Transalpin @diningcar between #Buchs& #Zurich, one of the few remaining “full diners” of ÖBB. They’ve got the new, wintery, menu: I opted for a nice “Schweinsbraten Tullnerfeld” (pork roast, whatever the meaning behind Tullnerfeld) and an organic beer.

From tomorrow the new hourly #EuroCityDirect services will operate between #Bruxelles and #Amsterdam running ~45 min faster. They only stop at #Antwerpen, #Rotterdam and #Schiphol. New: the services will be extended from/to #Lelystad and stop at Amsterdam Zuid instead of Centraal.
