I'm back in Germany! Over the next days (weeks?) I'll be posting photos of my trip to #Egypt. I took almost 2k photos, so there's a lot to show. Here're three photos of the first day. The #PyramidsOfGiza were our first station on day one and wow. What a way to kick of this vacation. Words cannot describe the feeling of standing in front of them.

Horizontal landscape photo of two of the three big Pyramids of Giza. The photo shows them from an unusal side angle. There's a sandy desert plane in front of the pyramids and both of them seem to be behind a small hill. A small dark speck in front of the right one is actually a camel. The lighting is pale and the blue sky looks almost milky white with a thick layer of dust and smog at the horizon. There are no sharp edges and clear colours. The sun is out of frame and only shines upon one of three visible sides of the pyramids.

The photo is taken very close to the big pyramid, looking up one side to the top. It's basically just a huge wall of giant sand stones forming a barely recognizable triangle. A group of people is standing in front and on top of the first row of stones for scale, showing how incredible high the pyramid reaches and how gigantic the blocks of stone are. The sky is blue and the sun peeks into the frame from the left as a blindingly white spot.

The photo is a close up photo of one of the blocks of sandstone with two arms reaching into the frame, showing how the fingertips touch the stone. The smaller hand and arm are a very pale skin tone. The bigger hand with a dark watch and a hairy arm are more tanned. Yes, we took a "Holy shit we're touching the pyramids" photo 😁

... Once, in Egypt, I lay beneath the feet of a Sphinx. I thought that its body was all that remained of a proud empire, and I whispered a prayer for the soul of such a magnificent creature to find peace.

But I was wrong. It was not a lifeless stone body, but a long slumber after losing a battle of wits.

I asked more questions, but the time for riddles had long passed, leaving only echoes trapped within the grains of sand, colliding with each other under the merciless breath of the warm wind of the necropolis.
