Look what arrived!

An original, sealed box release of #SuSE #Linux 8.1 Professional, from the year 2002!

I grabbed it off of eBay for a small price and it arrived quickly.

My plan is to take my 2001 laptop, the Fujitsu #Lifebook E6550, and without using the internet and just by consulting the manual and disks in the box, set up an authentic contemporary Linux system.

... as an #LGR-style video for #PeerTube!

I always find myself split when I look at the #guix home page guix.gnu.org. I feel like it 1) misses selling the declarative/functional/transactional power of #guix, 2) misses selling #guix as an open system as well as supporting pure-#gnu installations, and 3) don't like to see the embedded domain-specific languages thing as the selling point is that #guile is a general-purpose, infinitely powerful configuration mechanism. I'm also not a big fan of the spaced-out feel of the site.

guix.gnu.orgGNU Guix transactional package manager and distribution — GNU GuixGuix is a distribution of the GNU operating system. Guix is technology that respects the freedom of computer users. You are free to run the system for any purpose, study how it works, improve it, and share it with the whole world.

Pues lo he hecho.

Did you know that #GNU/ #FSF has its own #darknet application and protocol stack?

What is #GNUnet?

GNUnet is an
#alternative #network stack for building #secure, #decentralized and #privacy-preserving #distributed applications. Our goal is to replace the old insecure Internet protocol stack. Starting from an application for secure #publication of #files, it has grown to include all kinds of basic protocol components and applications towards the creation of a GNU internet.

Today, the actual use and thus the social requirements for a global network differs widely from those goals of 1970. While the Internet remains suitable for military use, where the network equipment is operated by a command hierarchy and when necessary isolated from the rest of the world, the situation is less tenable for civil society.

Due to fundamental Internet design choices, Internet traffic can be misdirected, intercepted, censored and manipulated by hostile routers on the network. And indeed, the modern Internet has evolved exactly to the point where, as Matthew Green put it, "the network is hostile".

We believe liberal societies need a
#network #architecture that uses the #anti-authoritarian #decentralized #peer-to-peer paradigm and #privacy-preserving #cryptographic #protocols. The goal of the GNUnet project is to provide a Free Software realization of this ideal.

@tortoise Imagine spending years to give xomputer users the freedom to use a computer, working for that goal for over a decade, then someone (Linus torvalds) helps you just a bit (creating the Linux kernel), and then most people give the credit to him
This is what sir Richard M. Stallman @rms did.
Linux refers to the kernel, GNU/Linux is the entire OS. So the correct question would be "How do y'all setup ur GNU/Linux partitions?"

From ehat i read it looks like it will end soon, better if you move to supabase.
And by the way, with free I mean free, as in freedom. Software that provides you the freedom to run, copy, modify, redistribute copyes of that code

Con el tema de las "coreutils", eso de que si algo funciona no lo toques no es lo mejor. Si algo es mejorable ¿a qué esperas?
Creo que GNU debe ponerse las pilas o le pasarán por encima.
