NathanSo, I very much enjoyed experimenting with <a href="https://gts.superseriousbusiness.org/@gotosocial" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@gotosocial</a> ; markdown support in particular was a *huge* upgrade from Mastodon. Unfortunately, I stopped the experiment as it filled up my hard drive with 17GB of stuff, and although I'm sure this is my fault, I figured I probably shouldn't run it on a machine that also hosts services that I and others rely on. Also, like any small fedi server, discoverability was a big problem. JeffI have a few (is 4 a few?) single user instances and I have to say, <a href="https://fedia.social/tags/GoToSocial" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#GoToSocial</a> and <a href="https://fedia.social/tags/IceShrimpNET" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#IceShrimpNET</a> reply backfill features are sooo nice. It's early days for both, but basically you open the detail of a post, and it queues up requests to pull in all known replies. Mastodon is working on something similar, too. Needs some UI to make it clear what's going on, but for now you just wait 10 or 15 seconds and then refresh the page, and wallah! The full reply thread on the post.
