08/03 #Oaxaca #Mexico - Thousands of people took to the streets to demand justice and government action against feminicide and clashed with police on International Women's Day.
Only during January 2025 there have already been more than 50 homicides committed against women in the State of Mexico, however, only 7 were investigated as femicide.
Protesters attacked the city's government building, dismantling metal barriers installed by police to defend the building. Police fired rubber bullets and tear gas from the roof of the building.
This year’s UN theme — #ForAllWomenAndGirls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.—reminds us that progress requires action. As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, let’s ensure we don’t take steps backward in the fight for fair opportunities for all women in science.
