Day out with Moray to Sgùrr an Utha, just north of the main road to Mallaig.
Started off in nice sunshine, but rapidly clouded over. The cloud base was around 800m, so we just escaped, but most of the surrounding hills were in cloud. A few flurries of snow or rain, and not much wind, so a reasonable day.
I’m sure there are spectacular views from the summit, but those will be for another day.

Meallan nan Uan & Sgùrr a’Mhuilinn from Strath Conon.

An pre-birthday outing for Moray yesterday, summer conditions, a fairly short route picking up 2 Corbetts above Strath Conon. Although apart from the two summit ridges themselves, most of the walking was tedious terrain – boggy tussocky grass and heather – so it made for a longer day than expected. Very little snow on the bigger hills.

11.8km, 810m of ascent, 2 Corbetts.

Carr Bridge to Aviemore with Moray yesterday. A mix of forest roads and bike trails, and some moorland. Including a short section on a black bike route 😮

We started off following the route of General Wade's military road, then found a track that wasn't on the map which took us over the higher ground, before dropping into the woods above High Burnside.

Ben Rinnes is a distinctively shaped hill, always in the view from the Northern Cairngorms, & has always been on my to-do list. Today we did it.

Lovely bright sunshine, but the wind was baltic, and from the south so we had no shelter from it at all, apart from behind the summit rocks. Not a day for hanging around, so we just came back down the same way, total walk 3 hours.

With Moray in the county of Moray.

Moray got an emergency rescue harness for Christmas, so we've been practising using it.
First, I got used to the harness with Big Bear in it (a teddy bear bigger than Moray). Moray not sure what's going on here haha.
Then I've got him into it and lifted it up onto my back. He was much more relaxed than I'd expected, tho' obviously an injured dog would not be so placid. And hope we never have to use it for real. #DogsOfMastodon #HikingWithDogs #Kelpie
