It is infuriating that in a world of wall-to-wall digital streaming services, it's still almost impossible to buy the original Kolchak series at a reasonable price. The Amazon Blu-Ray is almost £60, and the copies on Amazon Prime for streaming are terrible. You can't get the movies either. #Kolchak

In S1 episode 5 of Kolchak the Night Stalker "The Werewolf" the titular lycanthrope just "throws people over fences, and railings and raves before jumping about" and I think we have to address that might just have been a professional wrestler.

Who it transpires are also vulnerable to being shot with silver bullets.

Y’know, I’ve never seen Kolchak: The Night Stalker. I’ve known about it since the late ‘90s, but I never got around to seeing it. I don’t really know why, other than I figured it was too old, too boring, too creepy, or too hard to find.

It’s definitely dated, and I can see why as a younger person I might have been creeped out by it, but at the same time this is pretty good.

This episode being written by Richard Matheson (I Am Legend author, I assume) certainly helps.

I was reluctantly at NAJA to accept an award for Tony Vincenzo at the banquet. Vincenzo was laid up with two broken legs after being run over by an angry bus, It didn’t take me too long to figure out the bus was possessed by the vengeful spirit of a cub reporter nursing a grudge from the grave because Vincenzo had beat him out of a scoop 30 years ago. Arranging the exorcism of the bus took a little longer. 3/

Lt. Columbo, homicide LAPD, was assigned to investigate the mysterious death at the LA convention center. The 38th annual North American Journalists Association, NAJA, convention was two days into a week-long celebration of newspaper and television news hounds. Awards were to be handed out at the gala banquet planned for the seventh day. It would have been better if everyone had rested that day instead. 1/

50 Years Ago, the Most Important Sci-Fi Show You’ve Never Heard of Debuted

Carl Kolchak was an inspiration to me. A no-nonsense reporter stumbling across the supernatural and, instead of freaking out, just shrugging and hitting the library? That's my kind of protagonist.
He wasn't particularly bitter about the monsters, creatures, and critters he came across. To him, they were neither inherently good or evil. It was their actions that defined them. They were just often at the center of a good story.
And Darren McGavin played him with such bombast and gusto that it was hard not to root for him.
There have been novels and graphic novels for his further adventures, but he never caught on or received the recognition he deserved.
And, yes, he inspired the X-Files.

I've got both of these in a box somewhere. I really wish I could get my hands on them.
