I know the writing is on the wall, and in the not too distant future I'll need to move permanently to #Linux to escape all the evils of #windows11 and their continuing abuse of user #privacy windowscentral.com/software-ap

I'm serious considering the latest version of #zorinOS as it's a soft landing that even allows you to install essential windows applications.

Windows Central · A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's backBy Zac Bowden

An ok overview of security considerations & mitigating controls to protect privacy and reduce risk of harm when crossing the US border.

The author misses some utterly crucial details however.

1) When your encrypted device is on, it is in an *unlocked* state. Only by powering off such a device is it in an encrypted state. Further, MicroSD cards are often unencrypted. Check before you fly, and power off before the border.

Question for anyone interested...

If someone offered a service focused towards families (maybe?) for hosting open source and other self-hosted services, would you be interested?

I'm thinking it would provide:
* SSO with OIDC support
* your own instances for each app
* managed updates
* 99% uptime

Other features/ideals:
* contribute back to upstream projects
* keep as much of it open source as possible
* if you leave, you get the AWS account with all your data

So...would you do it?
