Niko TrimmelEmpfehlenswert, aber sehr umfassend ist ein Besuch im War Museum in Fort St. Elmo. Der Titel trügt etwas, denn das Museum veranschaulicht eigentlich die gesamte politische Geschichte der Insel und ist kein heeresgeschichtliches Museum.Vom Fort aus, aber auch von diversen öffentlichen Parks aus, hat man einen super Blick auf den Hafen und das Meer direkt vor Valetta.Zu Mittag gegessen haben wir übrigens in einem Restaurant namens "Cheeky Monkey", dessen Logo ein trinkender Affe ist. Niko TrimmelAm letzten vollen Tag in Malta waren wir dann in Valetta drinnen und schauten uns die Altstadt an. Niko TrimmelAm zweiten Tag in Malta waren wir in der Ghar Dalam Höhle und dem zugehörigen Museum. Die Höhle war Anfang der 1900er mit Tausenden Jahren an Erdablagerung voll, bis man begonnen hat auszugraben und in den Erdschichten hunderte Knochen urzeitlicher Tiere (maltesische Elefanten, Flusspferde, Rehe, Wölfe,..) fand.Auf dem Gelände sind auch Schleifspuren zu sehen, die in dieser Form an mehreren Stellen in Malta und anderen Mittelmeerstaaten existieren. Scheinbar führen sie in Richtung von bronzezeitlichen Siedlungen. Niko TrimmelAußerdem besuchten wir die Weltkulturerbestätten Ħaġar Qim und Mnajdra. Die beiden Monumentalbauten liegen an der Küste, in der Nähe der markanten Felsinsel Filfla.Der Zweck der aufwändigen Steinbauten ist unklar. Sie wurden 3600-2500 v.u.Z. errichtet; Vorschläge reichen von einer Orientierung anhand von Sternbildern bis zur Positionierung bestimmter Lichtachsen an Sonnenwenden. Niko TrimmelAm zweiten Tag in Penang ging es zuerst mit dem Linienbus aus Georgetown raus in eine Vorstadt – inklusive Verständigungsschwierigkeiten mit dem Busfahrer bezüglich Destination fürs Ticket.Dort ist die Talstation der Bahn, mit der man auf die Hügel rund um die Stadt gelangen kann. Die Hügel tragen so klingende Namen wie "Bukit Bendera" (Flaggenmasthügel) oder "Strawberry Hill" (Erdbeerhügel), werden verwirrenderweise als Ganzes aber "Penang Hill" genannt als wäre es nur ein Hügel.Dass dort oben Infrastruktur existiert, liegt an der Angst der Briten vor einem französischen Angriff in den napoleonischen Kriegen.
