instagr.am/p/DI6WlQ9zgjb/

Imagine if instead of banning employees from masking, huge corporations like Starbucks would offer paid time off, clean the air and encourage customers to mask up. They could even provide free respirators at the door.

Their employees would be healthier, happier and more productive.

Yesterday I was riding my bike home from the rec center near Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA when I rode by the Starbucks near my house, hearing chants ("the Workers United, will never be divided") and seeing a small picket line in front of the entrance.

There were about 8 #StarbucksWorkersUnited members carrying out an educational picket line (not trying to turn away business).

One worker there named Chris had been recently fired on phony work violations, and that was the main reason for the picket. (Chris is the guy in the middle with his fist raised.)

I learned that this #Starbucks is unionized, but they still do not have a contract after 2 years. Starbucks is trying to wear them down until they give up.

They are asking people to fill out a No Contract, No Coffee pledge which can be found at this URL: tinyurl.com/SBWUPledge (It is not a pledge to boycott Starbucks, just to support the union.)

“The fact that Starbucks charges $6 for a cup of coffee, when most of [the coffee beans] have been harvested by forced labourers and child labourers, is really beyond a criminal act. It’s morally repugnant.”

New lawsuits allege #Starbucks and other coffee chains continue to import coffee from Brazilian plantations despite knowing those owners used forced labor and child labor.

>> ... International Rights Advocates filed a U.S. lawsuit against the coffee titan [Starbucks] alleging #trafficking and Coffee Watch filed a petition with U.S. customs authorities asking the government to block imports from #Brazil to the U.S. of coffee tainted by slavery and forced labor by top importers including #Starbucks, #Nestlé, JDE, #Dunkin’, #Illy, and #McDonald’s...

>> “The coffee industry, led by Starbucks, has slaves working in its supply chain right this minute, and we must stop this abuse, starting in Brazil, as the world’s top coffee producer,” said Etelle Higonnet, Coffee Watch Founder and Director. “We’re talking about a multi-billion-dollar coffee industry and giant corporations like Starbucks that have failed to ensure their supply chains are free of horrific human rights abuses. Starbucks must take action.”

I went to #Starbucks with the mother. We haven't been in a long time due to the #boycotts , but my mum wanted to go. She soon regretted her decision and wished we'd gone to #Greggs 😅

We both got the new Lavender lattes, which were very underwhelming. I couldn't taste much lavender or coffee. It just tasted like hot, foamy milk.

We should have gone to Greggs; it's way cheaper, they aren't evil, and the #coffee honestly tastes better

Many things we may enjoy, coffee, tea, chocolate, among others, are farmed or processed using modern slavery. This is another, heinous example. Descendents of freed slaves, enslaved to harvest coffee sold to Starbucks, Nestlé, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Dunkin’, Illy and McDonald’s. They should be checking their supply chain, and rarely do…
