Blog - Reflections after finishing Zozer Games' Far Horizon for the #travellerrpg and #Cepheus #ttrpg

The scenario felt very different to the usual #Traveller adventure that I've run, with a strong hard science flavour. The planning exercises needed by the game enhanced the feel, and roleplaying tended towards vignettes in key scenes, partly also because people had multiple characters. The mystery about the rogue planet added an unknown factor. Highly recommended.

Campaign generation by randomized GURPS sourcebook

This table was inspired by a quote from Robin D. Laws’ saying

When in doubt, blindfold yourself, take any two GURPS sourcebooks off the shelf at random, and combine the results.

Ok, this is a bit pointless but also… not. I mean, who has a d140 anyway? Or in fact even so many GURPS books? But I wanted to list all the GURPS books, excluding some of the sub-books for different lines, no matter how good they are (so e.g. no Discworld Also, and none of the Traveller supplements EXCEPT Interstellar Wars, which is a distinct enough setting in my book).

I bet I missed some.

So what is it? Just a list of all GURPS sourcebooks except the most mechanical.

I’ve been thinking of adding some quality fan-made books as well, which are floating around the net. I bet one could get some good stuff out of those as well.

I never really cared for GURPS as a rule system, but I always love using their sourcebooks as a starting point to work out ideas for my own games. And most of the stuff is indeed so generic that I can easily rework things into DnD, Traveller, Shadowrun, or what have you. So take a d140 (sigh, or go to a website that does it for you) and roll up your next campaign.

Yikes. A great way to cut carbon emissions though.

‘For the US economy, much is at stake, with the inbound travel market a major revenue-earner worth $155 billion in overseas visitor expenditure, and with millions of Americans employed in the tourism industry.

‘In 2024, before the Trump administration took office and introduced its extreme version of enhanced vetting, more than 710,000 Australians visited the US, a nearly 17 per cent increase on the previous year.

‘Now the giant French hotel multinational Accor has warned that bookings from Europe to the US for this northern summer’s high season are down 25 per cent. Airlines such as the UK-based Virgin Atlantic are also sounding the alarm to investors.

‘Extraordinarily, in the past week, experts, via the pages of The New York Times and The Washington Post, have been recommending that foreign travellers at least delete “anything you wouldn’t want someone to read or see from your device before visiting the US”.’

Blog - First impressions - Rim Expeditions for the #Traveller #ttrpg

TL;DR: A very flexible framework to run a variety of campaigns set in sparsely explored space. You can have diplomacy, conflict and pure exploration. Overall, this has been done well, and could provide the foundation of an ongoing campaign or some fun one-shots based off the various wonders and anomalies described within, but will need some hard work from the Referee.

I hope the players decide to come back for a Season 2, but to be honest, if they're good with just what they accomplished, that's fine too! It was a lot of fun, some great role-playing and definitely proved out that Classic Traveller 1977 can be used for any sort of sci-fi genre, not just for Third Imperium play.

Just as Marc intended...

My Battlestar Galactica/Traveller campaign finally had it's Season 1 finale, of course, it had to end on a cliffhanger!

The Fleet is finally escaping the Veil (a vast nebula between former Colonial worlds & unknown space) - looking for a place to go!

The PCs (Fleet Scouts) find a system with 2 habitable planets, and a stripped hulk of a pre-Colonial ship!

They found an ancient landing zone, a human inhabitant, then a Cylon transport flew overhead!

Singularity is an epic campaign that takes your Travellers to places they never imagined they would — or could — go; the glorious worlds of the Core: the throneworld of Capital, the vast archives of Reference, and the opulent worlds of the Sylean Main. As the campaign kicks into high gear, the Travellers voyage by means they never thought possible, traversing not just the Core, but the whole of Charted Space.

From Mongoose on 17th April 2025:

”It is the Golden Age of the Third Imperium and the next great age of advancement is upon us, but all is not well..."

"Thousands of years ago, a godlike alien intelligence was found floating in a derelict ship, lost in the depths of a stellar abyss. Now trapped in an Imperial Research Station, it wants the Travellers’ help.

Planning/prep for tonight's BSG/Trav season finale game has included:
* fleet status and new governing structure
* subsector gen(eration)
* solar system gen
* habitable planet(s) gen
* animal encounter table
* NPC gen
* what are the Cylons (and others) doing?

And, of course, how do I work in a season cliffhanger when the players could literally do anything?

Should be fun! I hope the players want to reup for a season 2!
