CoffeeGeek<p>Did you know Baratza made a commercial grinder? One tested and certified for light commercial use?</p><p>It's the Forte Grinder. We've never formally evaluated this grinder at CoffeeGeek. That's changing this summer. And this unit we just got in is a very limited edition version of the Forte, in a different colour, and signed by one of Baratza's two founders, Kyle Anderson.</p><p>More soon!</p><p>cc <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/coffee" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>coffee</span></a></span> </p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/coffeegrinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffeegrinder</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/baratzaforte" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratzaforte</span></a></p>
Bridge&Tunnel Jeff<p>Note: I bought this grinder in 2013 for ~80USD, when they were selling for $129 new. Got it cheap because it had a few dings (cracked hopper and a few cracks on the plastic chassis). Repaired what I could then, upgraded some parts and it's done a good job at home for me ever since. If you want a versatile grinder that will last and that you can service yourself for cheap, the Encore is still the way to go.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a></p>
Bridge&Tunnel Jeff<p>Calibration achieved - moved the screw towards the center to make the grinder a little better at coarse grinding (cold brew, French press) while still being good enough for a moka pot. Without an espresso machine I don't need a finer grind anyway.</p><p>Sorry about the coffee dust, I did this after a test grind.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grinder</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a></p>
Bridge&Tunnel Jeff<p>Burrs have been changed back to the original ones (which are better for coarser grinds than the Preciso burrs), cleaned the copious amounts of coffee dust inside the grinder and changed the gear, which got damaged when something got jammed - lost a few teeth in the process. Will be grinding coffee after I come back home.</p><p>Edit: stayed longer than expected at home, so I had time for a test grind - looks good, but I will need to adjust the calibration screw.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grinder</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/repairs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>repairs</span></a></p>
Bridge&Tunnel Jeff<p>I also changed the gearbox when I changed the burrs, so it won't be the first time I took it apart. It's been a while, so I'll be watching videos and reading guides first. </p><p>I'll see what else might be broken now - the good news is that getting parts from Baratza is pretty easy and way cheaper than buying a new grinder (or at least it was).</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grinder</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a></p>
Bridge&Tunnel Jeff<p>Earlier today I grinding coffee beans for cold brew and I missed a small pebble that made my Encore very unhappy. Hoping the motor is still fine and that little rock is just jamming it still - I'll be disassembling the grinder tomorrow to see the extent of the damage, possibly replace the burrs as well (I replaced the original burrs with Preciso burrs when I still had an espresso machine, but kept the old ones just in case).</p><p>Hopefully I can repair it.</p><p><a href="https://mas.to/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grinder</span></a> <a href="https://mas.to/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a></p>

They offered to service it for free - I was lucky that I didn’t have to ship it since they are located in Bellevue,WA. They called me a few days later and it was ready for pickup. CoffeeGeek<p>I'm kinda shocked there are very little good (and recent, like less than 5yr old) reviews of the Baratza Forte grinder out there. </p><p>This little known grinder is Baratza's full blown commercial grinder. It is like a Vario-W on steroids. It also is their only grinder that easily switches between grind by weight and grind by time. </p><p>We're revisiting this grinder this summer on CoffeeGeek. Meanwhile, he's Coffee Kev's first look at it, from 1yr ago, one of the only reviews recently on Youtube.</p><p><a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/coffee" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coffee</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/espresso" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>espresso</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>grinder</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratza</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/baratzaforte" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>baratzaforte</span></a></p><p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fw6LbitvP_8&amp;pp=ygUVYmFyYXR6YSBmb3J0ZSBncmluZGVy" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/watch?v=fw6LbitvP_</span><span class="invisible">8&amp;pp=ygUVYmFyYXR6YSBmb3J0ZSBncmluZGVy</span></a></p>

CoffeeGeek<p>So <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Baratza</span></a> has an interesting holiday promotion on. They're giving away a Baratza Encore ESP <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Grinder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Grinder</span></a>, and apparently (it's a bit confusing) a second Encore ESP for you to gift or designate to someone else. </p><p>Sadly, it's for Americans only... but you can enter here:</p><p><a href="https://gleam.io/K0CZd/baratza-holiday-giveaway" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gleam.io/K0CZd/baratza-holiday</span><span class="invisible">-giveaway</span></a></p>
CoffeeGeek<p>It's interesting that <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Baratza</span></a> Grinders literally never go on sale. They have their set price, and that's the price, year in, year out.</p><p>There used to be a cheaper way - Baratza would sell grinders in their refurb category on their website, but they no longer offer this.</p><p>Sometimes, vendors will do combo packages which will discount Baratza grinders. That's the only way to save money on them.</p>
CoffeeGeek<p>Last week, another monster review was posted, for another grinder: the <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/Baratza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Baratza</span></a> <a href="https://flipboard.social/tags/EncoreESP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>EncoreESP</span></a> grinder; the long knock against the Encore was the inability to do any fine-tuned espresso grind; Baratza tried to answer this with the ESP version. How did they do?
