@muiren We watched Origins last night, excellent, just as we’d expected of Ava DuVernay, and are glad to see our local public library has Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents in multiple formats, including large print, sound recording, and book adaptation for young adults. montereylibrary.org/cgi-bin/ko

Stories shape our world, but who gets to tell them? How does caste influence media narratives, artistic expression, and literary representation?

In this episode of Caste Conversation, we explore how caste impacts visibility in media, the suppression and misrepresentation of marginalized voices in literature, and the barriers artists from marginalized communities face in gaining recognition. From youth reclaiming their narratives to artists using their craft as resistance, this discussion uncovers the deep intersections of caste, creativity, and power.

@EugestShirley

This does fit with a model of #America as 4 level #caste system:

Hyperwealthy, with overwhelming say in how things happen, with endless fawning media gaze, with global reach and global impunity.

Technocratic engineers and managers, making system work for top caste, protected only as long as useful, always afraid of becoming...

Precariat, working people working hard but falling behind and falling apart.

Untouchables. The prisoners, immigrants, homeless, disabled, old, sick.

So, funny thing about this story, it's tied into the reason why #Bart #Simpson has 5 fingers in japan. See, the burakumin are a sort of mistreated minority in japan, #House briefly touches upon this in the #TV #Show clip. They were the lowest class of japan's classic #caste system, doing the demeaning and undesirable jobs. This typically meant they would do jobs which would cause them to lose fingers in machinery, and as such, it became a sort of slur in #japan to throw 4 fingers as an insult.
