I went through an array of #emotions. At first, I found it #awkward and #discomforting. I made jokes:

Wait, you mean people aren't thinking #critically and growing #cognitively because the #digitalization of the world is doing it for them....and it's making them (gasps) #dumber!!?? #AI is making it worse?? Is this #Idiocracy? Am I being #punked right now!? Where's Ashton and the cameras!

Then, I had a deep #selfrealization:

Jokes aside - This is a #sensitive topic for me. I talk about it in my closest circle too often. Unfortunately, I have a front seat to the steep cognitive #decline of some close #friends and #family members for years now, and it makes me sad - not because of disease or "old age", simply because of too much screen time and no new cognitive #stimulation. I see too many people purposefully avoiding nearly anything #cerebral, if they even approach them at all. I have many days where I wish the #Internet didn't exist - for a multitude of reasons, but this is a big one. I'm not trying to be "old fashioned" or #sarcastic, I'm just #disappointed in how we #humanz have grown to depend on #technology as a #crutch, rather than using it as the #tool it was invented to be. As the article eludes to, these technologies are supposed to #complement human #evolution, not #supplement it.

It is so demotivating when you don't get engagement online. I posted a question ok Tik Tok asking physical media collector if they would buy a DVD from a YouTuber, & while I got views no one has actually answered the question. I've resorted to sending the video to relevant accounts hoping someone will finally chime in.

We saw something low in the sky to the south this evening at dusk in San Jose. It took a moment to realize it was a launch from Vandenburg that had just gone through staging.

I was tickled to realize I had seen my first space launch with my own eyes, but then disappointed that it was probably a StarLink launch by SpaceX

Small #protest (sorry, no pics) on my small campus in a small blue town in a red district. About 50-100 students, half a dozen older people (the usual suspects who went to protests in 2016-2020), and... that's it.

Over 5,000 people on this campus. 500 or so faculty. I was the only faculty member there. Everyone else says the right things: oh, yes, yes, we support #DEI and Trump is doing terrible, terrible things [solemn head nod]. And some of those people are quick to imply that other faculty are failing their disabled, LGBTQIA+, Black, Native American, Hispanic, Asian, etc. students if they can get a "gotcha" in group meetings to score points, but actually show up at a protest? Everyone is suddenly busy.

It's been the same for a decade: protests about Trump's actions in the first administration, about funding inequalities for our school, and actually about the possibility of *shutting down programs with the threat of closing the school*... I think a max of 50 faculty showed up to even that. Usually it's more like 10 or 20, and that's if the union sends multiple emails.

When I wonder if we're fucked, I worry very deeply that these experiences are my answer.

Just watched Star Trek: Section 31 and was hoping for something amazing.

Thought we'd finally get a deep dive into them, but nope, barely any action, lacklustre acting, and overall disappointing.

If you ask me, I wouldn't recommend it.
