DOSBox Staging v0.82.1 has been released 🥳

The main focus of this maintenance release is to fix a couple of regressions introduced in 0.82.0 and older releases, mostly related to game compatibility. The other big improvement is the CPU usage of the 3dfx Voodoo emulation has been reduced by about 50%, so your computer won’t go into hoover-mode anymore when playing those Voodoo games 😎

I've got rest of the Death Gate stream series up on YouTube! I deeply enjoyed the experiencing the game myself and it's been wonderful to be able to share it with others as well.

There's six videos in total - we travel out from the labyrinth through elemental realms solving puzzles and mysteries. Making alliances with unexpected parties, and facing off with the forces that sundered the world!

Awesome! Got everything working correctly under Windows 3.1. Turns out the S3 driver set I got was the correct one after all and I got glorious 1024x768 with 32k colors mode working! 🎉

It actually ran way smoother than I expected especially compared to the generic SVGA driver, though I eventually had to drop back down to 640x480 @ 256 colors for Myst.

After some trial and error I was able to also get AWE64 sound working also, though I had to fool S64basic.exe installer that I already had a controller manager installed. Blasted canyon.mid with the creative soft synth before I tried installing Roland MPU-401 support - which my PCMidi card to my surprise was completely happy to be driven by, so I followed it up with the SC-55 MkII ^^

I find it exceedingly cool how the Win 3.1 midi mapper allows you to divide midi channels between different midi devices if you so desire. So you could have drums from one and the rest from another for example.

To top it all off we installed Quicktime 2.03 😂 and did our first foray into Myst, the goal of the whole exercise to explore its various mysteries 💕 Will be returning to it a little later!

Today for the #startrek bubble: This #retromonday I show you “Star Trek 25th Anniversary” - my first Star Trek game. And what a game it was. In short episodes you experience the adventures of the #tos crew, which felt like the fourth season. On 8 floppy disks or later on CD with the real voices of the original actors. The copy protection was a star map found in the centerfold of the manual #retro #dosgaming
