Élodie Bouchet<p>Si on m’avait dit il y a un an que me serais activement mise à la broderie, je n’y aurais pas cru. Broder, moi ? Ça ne m’était pas venu à l’idée depuis de rares travaux au point de croix, qui remontent à près de vingt ans. Et pourtant… En un an, je m’y suis mise, j’ai sacrément progressé, et j’ai même brodé une centaine de petits marque-pages dans les thèmes de mes romans.</p><p>Le point de départ, c’était la découverte de chouettes <a href="https://www.hemiole.com/Boutique/fr/5-explorer-le-moyen-age-a-dos-de-dragons" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">kits de broderie médiévale</a> sur le thème des dragons (je sais, personne n’est surpris que ce soit ce thème-là qui m’ait attirée). Mais si j’ai poursuivi après mes premiers essais, c’est que la broderie m’apporte de nombreuses choses aux quotidien, et notamment dans mon rapport à l’écriture.</p><p><strong>Un outil précieux pour débloquer Muse</strong></p><p>Quand j’écris (et en particulier pendant le premier jet), je rencontre de nombreux blocages ponctuels. Parfois j’ai une vague idée de ce que je veux écrire, mais je ne sais pas par quel bout je veux la prendre. Parfois, je sais que je dois arriver à une situation entre deux personnages, mais sans savoir comment l’amener… Dans ces cas-là, forcer ne sert à rien : la solution, c’est de laisser un peu de temps à Muse pour se manifester.</p><p>Sauf que si je bascule sur une occupation classique (lecture, consultation de sites internets ou de réseaux sociaux…), je m’y absorbe tellement que je ne laisse aucun espace à Muse. Une solution classique est de sortir me promener (j’ai aussi vu passer la stratégie d’aller prendre une douche, ou de faire le ménage). Ça fonctionne pas mal, mais c’est un peu compliqué à répéter tous les quarts d’heure…</p><p>C’est là qu’intervient la broderie. Parce que j’ai découvert à mon grand plaisir que c’est une activité qui occupe les mains, mais pas le cerveau (une fois la phase d’apprentissage terminée). En cas de blocage, je peux broder cinq minutes, le temps d’avancer un contour, et hop, la solution me parvient d’elle-même et je retourne à mon fichier texte. Comme mes broderies sont de plus facilement interruptibles (car elles restent simples), ces aller-retours entre les deux occupations me réussit bien, c’est très satisfaisant.</p><p><strong>De quoi m’occuper en salon</strong></p><p>Deuxième côté chouette de la broderie : c’est une activité qui se pratique bien pendant les séances de dédicaces. Parce qu’autant les salons sont de chouettes expériences d’échanges avec des lecteurs dont je ressors souvent pleine d’entrain, autant les moments de creux sont nombreux…</p><p>Les principales stratégies que j’ai pu observer chez mes camarades autrices sont de lire, écrire, ou traîner sur son téléphone. Ces activités nécessitent cependant de s’absorber visuellement dans ce qu’on fait, au risque de ne pas remarquer la personne qui hésite à approcher. Et personnellement, quand je lis, je m’absorbe à fond dans ma lecture, au point de ronchonner quand on m’en tire… Pas idéal pour entamer une dédicace.</p><p>Depuis l’an dernier, j’ai donc décidé de promener ma trousse de broderie en salon. Et ça fonctionne extrêmement bien : non seulement c’est une activité facilement interruptible, mais elle me permet aussi de relever la tête de temps à autres pour ne pas perdre le fil de ce qui m’entoure. Discuter avec les voisins ne pose également aucun problème.</p><p>Cerise sur le gâteau : ça attire aussi un certain nombre de curieux, qui viennent me regarder travailler. C’est le moment idéal pour leur parler de mes romans, des fois que… (oui, j’ai réussi à en vendre quelques-uns comme ça).</p><p>Bref, c’est l’occasion de très chouettes échanges.</p><p><strong>Mais que faire de toutes ces broderies ?</strong></p><p>Parce que oui, le stockage des broderies, c’est l’ultime problème… Mais l’avantage des travaux de broderie sans prétention, c’est qu’on peut faire ça sur a peu près n’importe quel tissu, et notamment des sacs ou vêtements déjà existants.</p><p>Pour ma part, j’ai eu l’illumination devant une pile de vieilles chemises : quelques découpes plus tard, j’avais de jolis carrés de tissus, prêts à broder, puis à coudre autour d’un morceau de carton. Et hop, ça donne un marque-page !
