🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>You gotta hand it to the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a>, it’s random new followers with thirst-trap selfies on brand new accounts are of a qualitatively higher class than the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> or LinkedIn. <br>I honestly don’t know whether the latest is authentic or not.</p>
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>Once again, my luck hits on the right approach… </p><p>I spent months working with my <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> account (&amp; a handful of joke accounts) to delete all data &amp; activity, until they got annoyed with my efforts to un-like everything I’d liked (which failed because they're broken) after deleting every tweet &amp; unretweeting every retweet. The account was killed for “inauthentic activity" months ago. <br>There is nothing left for them to now decide to slurp into the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a> sewer. <a href="https://mastodon.social/@mcc/113324561126619404" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">mastodon.social/@mcc/113324561</span><span class="invisible">126619404</span></a></p>
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>I have somehow acquired more followers on the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> in under 2 years than I ever had at the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> in over a decade. <br>Not so thrilled that it means my 'reach' now seems to extend into a sample that is showing glimmers of Sturgeon's Law at the fringes. </p><p>For the 10%’s sake, I can only ask that you read what I write carefully. If you engage, please understand that I’m not here on any sort of crusade and I’m not interested in doing battle. Do not seek a fight.</p><p>I surrender by blocking.</p>
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>Clearly the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/Fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Fediverse</span></a> is maturing. </p><p>In my new followers I see 2 which are almost certainly inauthentic: “real name” in username, following many more (10X+) than follow them, randomly anodyne bios, very few toots, all either boosts of random slop or trite generic advicey stuff. No conversations.</p><p>I got these steadily back in the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> and blocked them as they followed me because most were clearly thirst-traps posting cheesecake shots. There I blocked on sight. Not sure that fits these.</p>
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦Social media navel-gazing
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>Someone I follow at the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> just posted a picture of her grandmother’s (antique Rossi) revolver and I am now inordinately worried about the safety of someone I barely know.</p>
🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://dice.camp/@palecur" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>palecur</span></a></span> They’re more important here than at the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> because there’s no full-text search across instances (and for many instances, even locally,) the population is a bit sparse, and propagation is imperfect. Hashtags improve people’s ability to find toots *and people* that they enjoy reading but might otherwise never find.</p>
Benjamin Detenber<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mas.to/@DrKerryS" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>DrKerryS</span></a></span> Good point, and thanks for the reminder. I added pronouns to my profile. The <a href="https://mas.to/tags/birdsite" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>birdsite</span></a> has become quite a <a href="https://mas.to/tags/fowlplace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fowlplace</span></a> lately, so cultivating community here is a good thing to do.<br><a href="https://mas.to/tags/inclusion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>inclusion</span></a></p>

I don&#39;t wish to offend anyone. Is there any protocol when Masting (?) aka typing to someone, like I am with you now? Any unwritten rules of communication you can think of? I assume Boosting is akin to Liking on <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a>? I tend to &quot;like&quot; with some abandon, I enjoy supporting folks.<br />Read your posts b/4 follow, you seem like a fun, thoughtful, kind person. I am so pleased to meet you. Promise not to pester you. Oh, I am an animal lover, will trawl for them too! TY ☮️</p>

Everyday Cyborg<p>I'd occasionally click through to the <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> to check on a couple of accounts that hadn't migrated away. Except my timeline no longer exists.</p><p>It's not my adblocker, it's not been deleted — I can see my own timeline and list of followers — but both the real and 'for you' timelines are acting like I'm a new user so I can't see who I follow.</p>

🆘Bill Cole 🇺🇦<p>It is blatant that they squashed <a href="https://toad.social/tags/SOTU" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SOTU</span></a> over in the <a href="https://toad.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a>. Lots of related stuff trending, but somehow not the main tag.</p>

I still follow some Twitter users and lists in <a href="https://digitalstuntfactory.com/tags/Inoreader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Inoreader</span></a> (mostly Twitter hold-outs). Paul Jacobson<p>I did pretty much the same thing late last year when I started my <a href="https://digitalstuntfactory.com/tags/Twitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Twitter</span></a> hiatus. I decided to shift as many of my <a href="https://digitalstuntfactory.com/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> related feeds to my <a href="https://digitalstuntfactory.com/tags/RSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RSS</span></a> reader, <a href="https://digitalstuntfactory.com/tags/Inoreader" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Inoreader</span></a>:</p><p><a href="https://social.ericwbailey.website/@eric/109745303517571453" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">social.ericwbailey.website/@er</span><span class="invisible">ic/109745303517571453</span></a></p>
Everyday Cyborg<p>One small thing I miss from the <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> is the easy identification of cryptobros, and thus the ability to silence hexagons as soon as they emerge, without even having to check their profiles.</p>
Wojtek Pietrusiewicz<p>@Fryto@mastodon.social EN tech już siedzi tutaj od dawna. Nie mam skrupułów. Everyday Cyborg<p>Re: last boost</p><p>I tend not to circulate stuff directly from the <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> (indeed, I filter them and only click through when I'm of a mind) but I feel that one in particular is worth breaking my general "no direct RTs" policy.</p>

Desert Dweller 🌵<p>Thinking on what I can only call "creeping desensitization," AKA the frog sitting in the pot of gradually boiling water. I've been on this platform less than 2 months. Recently I was mostly a <a href="https://home.social/tags/FowlPlace" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FowlPlace</span></a> user. Has been years since I had much presence on <a href="https://home.social/tags/Facebook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Facebook</span></a>. But occasionally I do have to go back there for specific reasons, including support for clients. Yesterday I did, and .... 😩 🤮 🤦‍♀️ ‼️ How did we ever tolerate the fire-hose stream of ads &amp; obnoxiousness?? I like to think of myself as</p>
